It's basically 'wishing you are prosperous in the coming year'. The ancient joke is to respond 'Hong Bao Na Lai' which is basically 'Can I have my red envelope, please?' (a traditional gift is a red envelope with some cash in it). Lived in Hong Kong for a while, and still love the place although it has changed a lot over the years. It would be 'Gong Xi Fa Cai' (Mandarin or Putonghua) for the mainlanders.
