The federal government will subsidise half-price flights to popular holiday spots across Australia from next month in a bid to support the struggling tourism sector.

Now Virgin Australia has launched a huge flash-sale with heavily-discounted fares to “get the party started” for two-hours only on Friday night.

From 5pm to 7pm AEDT on Friday 12 March, holidaymakers will be able to book extremely cheap seats on flights to or from Sydney, Byron Bay, Gold Coast, Melbourne, Launceston and the Whitsundays.

The fares are not part of the federal government’s half-price flight scheme, which kicks off on April 1.

The one-way economy fares are for flights each way on the below routes.

Sydney - Byron Bay from $55

Sydney - Gold Coast from $55

Melbourne - Launceston from $64

Brisbane - Whitsunday Coast from $78

Melbourne - Gold Coast from $88

To book, visit the Virgin Australia website from 5-7pm AEDT on Friday 12 March 2021.

The federal government’s $1.2 billion scheme to support the struggling aviation and tourism industries will start next month.

Aussies will be able to book flights to 13 key regions including:

Gold Coast

Cairns

The Whitsundays and Mackay region (Proserpine and Hamilton Island)

Sunshine Coast

Lasseter and Alice Springs

Launceston

Devonport and Burnie

Broome

Avalon

Merimbula

Kangaroo Island

To book, simply visit an airline’s website between April 1 and July 31 and purchase a seat on an eligible flight that departs between May and September this year.
