Victoria - $200 Cash Bonus for Residents to Spend at Pubs, Cinemas and Art Galleries

Just spotted this in my news feed!

Premier Daniel Andrews has unveiled a stimulus package aimed at encouraging travellers to visit regional Victoria and it's very similar to the cash bonus New South Wales residents will be receiving, but with a catch.

As part of the $28million package, which was announced on Wednesday, residents will be given vouchers worth $200 each to spend in regional Victoria.

But there's a catch - holidaymakers must spend $400 on accommodation, attractions or tours to qualify.

The voucher scheme echoes the handouts being offered in New South Wales which will see residents given four $25 vouchers to spend on dining out and entertainment.

The schemes are aimed at encouraging spending in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

The spending initiative will see $47.5million allocated for infrastructure on the Great Ocean Road; $18.5million for Gippsland; $3.5million for 10 'eco-pods' at Cape Conron Coastal Park; and $15million to improve the Falls to Hotham Alpine Crossing trail.

Two vouchers must be used at food retailers, and the remaining $50 is for use at cinemas, theatres, amusement parts and general entertainment.

The vouchers cannot be spent on alcohol, cigarettes, or gambling.

Customers will not get change if the amount spent is less than $25.

Participating businesses must be registered as Covid-safe, but the government was yet to say whether the vouchers could only be used during off-peak times like Monday to Thursday.
