"Unlimited" mobile and broadband plans
Was wondering if anyone had thoughts on 'unlimited' plans - there has been a lot of movement in the mobile market recently with Kogan leaving and Aldi reducing what's included in their plans..... Anyhow, although you may pay a little more each month you have the security that you will never pay more than that fixed amount.
When looking for something for our two main mobiles, my basic requirements were:
- unlimited calls (local/national/fixed & mobile, ideally also 1300 and 1800 numbers)
- unlimited text & mms messages
- 2GB data or more
Based on those requirements, I found:
amaysim - $39.90 4GB data; Optus network
boost - $40; 3GB data; Telstra NextG network (not 4G, but otherwise unrestricted)
pennytel - $35; 5GB data; Vodafone
In comparison, there is also
Optus - $100; 4GB
Optus - $60 ($2/day prepaid); 15GB (500MB per day)
Telstra XL$130; 3GB data (Note - 4G)
Vodafone $65; 3GB data
The Optus $2 plan is amazing if you need a lot of data, the Telstra plan is amazing for the pure cost, and the Pennytel plan is possibly the best from a value perspective *but* the Vodafone network may be a concern for those who may be outside their coverage area. I personally went with Boost for the moment.... access to the Telstra NextG network (if not 4G) was attractive, and frankly I rarely use more than 500Mb data per month anyway. The nice thing is, of course, I can switch anytime! ;-)
Does anyone know of other unlimited plans around worthy of mention?

I am with vaya ( super cheap plan ) but they have unlimited aswell, doesn't seem be as good as the ones above

Would have thought they would have been more competitive, but at $52 month for unlimited they seem a bit high..

Yeah.... they used to be a lot better. Optus network so coverage fine. Unlimited was $29 or something as I recall, but $52 now is nuts. I ruled out a few others for similar reasons or for a lot of restrictions on what they called "unlimited calls". Another list is here but it hasn't been updated for a while so don't believe everything that it says! ;-)

Ive just signed up with yatango https://www.yatangomobile.com.au/ind... and if you use my referal I get $20. Pick your own plan. I like the optus $2 a day plan too but its expensive for me.

How does the referral work? can you refer friends and family too?

Yes you can. Ive just put the referral on my facebook page - I dont mind advertising them because its a good way of doing your plan PLUS the first month is free. and the sim is free too.

but as an aside, if we want to discuss plans other than unlimited, maybe should start another thread? Yatango doesn't offer unlimited.
Anyhow, I use it for my iPad, a spare mobile, and for a USB data dongle that hardly ever gets used. Runs on the Optus network so coverage is fine. You can also change plans easily to apply the following month.
As for the referrals - each referral is unique so can only be used once per individual. The idea is that you sign up your friends and family and then get free or discounted calls between each other. The person making the referral gets the bonus, the person signing up doesn't get anything. You can however sign up via qwibble as I described here to get some cashback eventually.

Sorry, I should have realised it doesnt offer unlimted. I dont want to hijact the thread.
Though with the "make your own plan" you can get 1000 hours talk, unlimted sms and chose your data usage.
So in that sense its easy to compare to other providers.

I like them, which is why I use them, but only for services that aren't used a lot - the issue is still, even though it is easy to change your plan, that change only applies from the following month. Limitless SMS costs $15, so take that away from $40 (for example, if you went with Boost) and you end up with $25 to spend on other things. Add 200 mins calls and 1 GB data and it will cost $38. Also keeping in mind that you pay to access voicemail, and other things. It all means that if you find you are using a lot, you could end up with a fairly big bill that means in turn that you might as well have had an unlimited plan to begin with.

Boost is half price at Dick Smith again - $20 for a sim with $40 unlimited (ie 30 days of as many calls & text messages as you can do!). Special ends in a few days..... will check if it's already been listed - if not might post it!

at Dick Smith and 7-11..... only issue is that they are reducing the amount of data included from 3Gb to 2Gb. Doesn't really worry me personally as I rarely get close to using 1Gb let alone 2Gb, but might be a problem for others.
