STAN - new australian streaming service
seems quite a decent product for $10 / month
with netflix making it harder for aussies to get the streaming by blocking overseas users ( even with vpn's etc ) it seems netflix are gearing up for local launch as well.
Seems that there will be a fair bit of competition, which is great for prices
I dont have foxtel so this might sway me if it does come in at $10 month
I have already signed up for early free trial, see how it goes when it launches in the next few weeks hopefuilly

Let us know how it goes! With Netflix coming here in March, also for around the $10 mark, I wonder what content will actually be available.... I wonder if stan will also provide 4k content like Netflix apparently are planning (at a premium) to provide.

Wow 4k content, that would chew a bit of data, don't think my internet will be able to handle that!
Will be very interesting to see how it all pans out over the next 6 months

It's all going to depend on who buys streaming rights for which shows for me!

Apparently, it requires a minimum of 16Mb/s and a recommended 20Mb/s. Now there is some serious bit whittling happening there as true uncompressed 4k would be eating up data in the Gbps not Mbps range but even then it would be nice to see. Definite lack of content at the moment so I'm in no huge rush.

Definitely. Netflix has a huge catalogue in the US but many of the agreements aren't here of course - and even some programs that Netflix had made for them apparently are locked in to the likes of Foxtel etc.It will eventually settle down, but for now I'm sitting back and waiting! I rarely have much time to watch TV anyhow..... :-(

Pesto? Made me feel hungry... I think it might be 'Presto'. Even so a) I wonder who thinks up these names and b) thanks for the idea for dinner - might do chicken & pesto pasta tonight. ;-)

just read that you need chromecast or apple tv for this to work, so i might not be able to use it :(

I don't see that as much of an issue - both Apple TV and Chromecast devices are not super expensive - in particular the Chromecast is only $49 and can be picked up for under $40 regularly. Main issue I have is the content, but again will give it some time!

Any chance presto will broadcast world cup cricket games?

No presto is just movies and TV series unfortunately.
