Should we bring Freebies back to Deals section?

Just need some input from the community!

We moved freebies into the forum section last year to keep them separate from Deals and while it seems like a good idea on its own merit, the downside is that it hides the freebies from the limelight. Freebies always have been the most popular 'items' on the bargain hunting menu and I feel that we are not doing them much of a justice by hiding them in a forum section.

What do others think?

My opinion is that a freebie is a bargain, and if anything it is one of the best bargains around so probably should go back to the Deals section. Perhaps we could also replace the "Freebies" link in the menu to a "Top 10" with the top ten best/most popular current freebies, bargains, coupons, etc?

Yes agree that it would probably be best in the deals section

It still may be worthwhile having the heading freebies which just lists the freebies, as you say it is popular section, so it might be good keep it as a heading

Cool. Will do. Speaking of things getting lost, I updated the bix deal (http://www.topbargains.com.au/weetbi...) but of course it's quite old now it is unlikely people would see that unless they searched for 'bix'.... maybe in the dropdown list having an option to search for recent activity - similar to the 'Active Topics' option in the forums? Just a thought.

This is a good idea. Currently, search is configured to prioritise new entries but obviously it's far from where it should/could be. I can tinker with the algorithm and see if we can add the 'updated' factor to include recent activity on older deals.

The only issue is that system marks a deal updated every time it is saved. For example, as far as the system is concerned, all the freebies are now updated as of yesterday (by converting them into deals from forum posts).

Having said that we have a come long way to what we had in the beginning :)

But that's a (hopefully for you!) once off... so over time it should sort itself out I'd expect...

I still like it where is has it own section, the heading is still there, and lists only the freebies.

quite a few of the freebies are now on the front page and it looks 'normal' . they are bargains after all :)

Yes, completely agree. I can't remember the reason behind moving them to forum but surely it was a stupid one :)

hopefully it wasn't a major thing ... must of have some valid points to do it in the first place..

time will tell :)
