Serving alcohol in retail shops
My apologies if this is not a relevant topic for the forum but below deal from David Jones really got me thinking.

How can you serve alcohol in retail store which is not a licensed venue? I am sure there will be some way of pulling it off but how responsible is this to serve champagne to girls to sell your cosmetics?
I am getting too old, I guess.

Maybe there is some special provision in the liquor act that also this sort of thing.
Especially if they are not charging for the alcohol.
Art exhibitions and grand openings do it all the time.
hoping to get them tipsy to they will spend more money, just like you said in the deal post ...
nice!

Agreed - it would be because they are not charging for it - either directly or indirectly (eg via an entry fee). Same as you don't have to get a license when serving drinks at home!

Do you need a license when you are selling beer in a fish and chips shop?

Pretty sure that would be a yes.....you even need one now if selling an old bottle of wine on eBay!

I think this is how they promote their products when they are having a special event and that includes serving alcohol.
