MUST READ FOR REPS: How to be successful on TopBargains!!

Please don't skip this, this is a summary of my experiences with more than 500 merchants posting deals on TopBargains over the years and if you pay enough attention and follow the advice, you too can benefit from TopBargains in a big way as a lot of other merchants already have.

So here's the bits & pieces of my advice for anyone trying to promote their business on TopBargains or on any other deals website.

1) Offer a Genuine Deal

There's no substitute for a good deal. Always start by offering a genuine deal and remember that people who frequent deal sites are not idiots and can tell a good deal from a bad one.

2) Be Patient

I have seen hundreds of reps join the site, add a deal or two and then never come back. These 'hit & run' reps never succeed on TopBargains regardless of how great their first deal was. On the other hand, we have had some really persistent merchants who have generated hundreds of thousands of views and clicks for free by being persistent over the long term. In my experience, you can never make it big in today's online retail market if you are not persistent.

3) Interact with the Community

While your primary motivation should be adding and promoting deals for your business, you will do so in much better fashion if you started participating on the forums and showed interest in other things. Nobody really cares about your business all that much but people will care about you if you start interacting with the community.

4) Tell a story and Ask questions

One of the biggest signs of failure for any reps is that they simply list products from their websites without explaining why they thought this was a great deal. This merely shows how superficial they are in their interactions with the consumers. Don't think of TopBargains as a product directory but think of this website as a forum. If people are not commenting on your posts, then you need to make your posts more interesting. Tell them why your deal is a good deal and ask them questions. If still nobody notices your posts (and that can happen with over 200 deals per day being added), keep persisting unless they do and in the meanwhile you will be getting valuable traffic nonetheless.

5) Be the first one to share your content

A huge portion of our users now comes from social media. When you add a deal on TopBargains, make sure to share the link on your business or personal Facebook or Twitter account. It's often the first 'Like' that's hard to come and once you get the first like, your deals have a better chance of going viral and driving the traffic back to you. I can't overemphasize this point enough, seeing that social evidence gives your deal the best credibility it can have. Moreover, deals that make it to Frontpage on TopBargains now use social signals as one of leading criteria to decide whether a deal is good enough to be sent to front page and front page deals get huge traffic just for being on front page.

6) Lastly, follow the community rules

As you would expect, rules are there to make sure we all enjoy the site and as a business representative, you have a greater responsibility to follow them. It's free to post deals on TopBargains but it's easy to forever loose this privilege if you are found to be violating site rules on a regular basis. We do give out prior warnings but the onus relies on you to find out about the site rules and norms and then follow them.

I will continue to add more tips to this thread (if there's enough interest from the merchants) but let me assure you one more time that you absolutely can not go wrong if you followed the above tips with some rigor.

Enjoy and all the best :)
Thanks

"1) Offer a Genuine Deal "

I cannot agree more with rule number 1.

Also, what I see more and more is that making a deal exclusive to a deal website also is a good way to go. It creates a positive vibe around the deal and the shop.

Agree. Number 1 point is the most important out of whole list.

This option becomes disabled if your IP is not from Australia to counter spam. Try logging in with another computer if you are in Australia.
