Holidays in Hamilton/Daydream Island

Thinking about taking a family holiday in Hamilton or Daydream Island..... or at least we were until we got conflicting reports on how it was cold or expensive..... I worked out though that the people complaining about the pools being cold had gone in the off season when it gets down to 14 degrees or so at night so, well, yes it will be cold!

Anyhow, we were planning to go later in the year so it should be warmer.... but does anyone have any pointers on any bargains out there? I know that if you book in some places at Hamilton the kids (below 12) can eat free at some of the restaurants (so for us it will make eating a lot cheaper, given my son is turning into a food vacuum!). Also I've heard you can arrange to have food delivered from Coles to your apartment so all the basics (fruit, milk, etc) are there when you arrive. Some other friends have recommended bringing in snacks with your luggage. Any other suggestions or alternative holidays welcome! As an aside, we went on a cruise last year, and we've been to Bali but had thought about going to somewhere like Thailand or Fiji etc, but the airfares for five people make that more expensive - so might save that for next year.
