Foxtel cuts prices amid new competition

Interesting about how foxtel is going to be cutting prices in november ..
news.com.au article

seems like prices will start at $25 / month, plus $25 for Sport , plus $.. for other channels.

a lot competition around from internet streaming, even fetch tv etc.

nice to see prices coming down, still dont think i would get it,but definitely a long time coming.

always thought if they cut the price by half , they would get more than double the subscribers!

anyone here more likely to get it now that it is alot cheaper

I used to have Foxtel.... had it for quite a few years, but eventually I couldn't justify the cost. It was great to have a large range of channels and content to choose from, but as some time ago I got a DVR (topfield) to search for & record shows it meant that in our spare time there was always something to watch through that.... Maybe if we still had it this drop in price would make me think about keeping it, but now it's gone well - the advantages don't really weigh up.

At $24.95 per month plus $75 for the hardware, the total cost for the first year would be $369, excluding sports. It would be cheaper for me to switch to Telstra or change my Optus broadband to unlimited and then subscribe to the 'presto' service at $10 per month instead to stream movies on demand.... Heck, the Optus TV with fetch is only $15 per month, which has ok reviews although my brother has used it and thought it pretty klunky.....

Sports is a big reason people get Foxtel. I had it just for Sports for 7-8 years and ditched it a few months ago because most games are now available on free tv and through internet streaming.

We have been spending a fraction of our Foxtel money on YouTube 'on demand movies' and a few other content subscriptions. Our kids go to sleep early as there's no kids programming on free to air after 7pm which is a great help with parenting.

Personally, I wouldn't go back to Foxtel unless it's completely free and just ad supported or priced at around $50 per month with no ads.

yeh i think the price is still too expensive for me, but i reckon they will get a lot more subscribers with this price point.

agree with the 7pm cutoff with kids, the abc4kids gets a workout at my place!

btw. thanks for fixing the image problem this morning KB, i tried to respond to the initial message i sent, but it said i could only send 1 pm per day :(

Sorry about that, seems like we can never get the messaging to work correctly.

I have tried to fix the issue and hopefully you won't face the limit again.
