Boxing day sales not like they used to be?
Is it just me, or were the boxing day sales a bit of a fizzer this year? Went into Myer/DJs today and yes there were specials, and there was a lot happening online, but in the bricks and mortar major retailers it was nowhere near like they used to be. No reports of people losing fingers in doors in the rush etc..... Perhaps everything got sold early?

Definitely a lot less activity this year. From looking into boxing day searches and traffic on TopBargains, there was a significant drop this year.
However, banks are reporting record purchases on boxing day this year.

May be it all went to overseas stores?

Interesting.... The article suggests the weaker aussie dollar would've helped local sales, which makes sense.

Maybe people are just shopping online on boxing day too... some of the sales started online before boxing day.

Yeah - I definitely did more 'boxing day' sale purchases online than at the bricks and mortar stores. The thought of actually going to a major shopping centre on boxing day itself sends shudders down my spine. :-)
