ALDI Opening Hours in Australia

ALDI is one of the popular retail supermarket chains in Australia and perhaps the third largest after Coles and Woolworths. Like many Australians, I have been a fan of Aldi for a long time. There are a lot of things to love about ALDI such as great prices and no-frills service model. However, my only gripe with ALDI is their opening hours. Coles and Woolworths have been constantly stretching their opening and closing times and most of their stores are open from 6am to midnight which makes it very convenient for busy families to shop at their convenience. On the other hand, ALDI stores open at 8:30 AM and most will close their doors by 8pm with some exceptions e.g. closing time is extended to 9pm on certain days or in certain stores. This makes it hard for many people to shop at ALDI store and many times I have been forced to go to another supermarket just because ALDI was already closed or about to close and I hate to be rushed into finalizing my purchases just because store staff is too impatient to allow shoppers to finalize their purchases.

You would think that ALDI's no-frills model should make it a better candidate for keeping the stores open until late. Unlike Coles and Woolworths, who have to employ an army of staff to keep the store open, ALDI needs a lot less people to operate and it makes all the more sense in the world for ALDI stores to stay open longer but they continue to have really constrictive opening hours and their logic (if any) is beyond me. Here are the opening hours for a typical ALDI store if you have been to an ALDI store lately.

  • Mon - Wed 08:30 - 8:00
  • Thursday 08:30 - 9:00
  • Friday 08:30 - 8:00
  • Saturday 08:30 - 7:00
  • Sunday 08:30 - 7:00
