Anyone used airbnb to rent accomodation?

Anyone used airbnb to rent a room to stay in or even used it to rent out a spare room? We have a large house and had thought about renting out a room to an overseas student, but this might be just as good a way to earn a few extra dollars to help to offset the cost of the mortgage!

Read about this the other day, and it sounded interesting. Potentially a cheap alternative to a hotel room, or for short term accommodation if you need to find a long term rental but don't want to be forced to jump at the first place you find.

Have heard of but have not used Airbnb. Renting out rooms to overseas students seems like a great idea but comes with challenges as well. There is a compromise on privacy and if you are not lucky to get a friendly occupant then there would be further issues. Though i must add it would be a valuable experience getting used to teenagers ;-)

I know a family who have been doing this for a long time and according to them it really depends on how good you are at picking potential tenants. Also, most people prefer overseas students from a particular world region and have a strong gender preference as well.
