Amazon free upgrades to priority and courier deliveries to Australia

This is the 2nd time it happened to me and I think they may have an unadvertised policy to offer shipping upgrades on orders which somehow don't get shipped right away or within 2-3 days after an order is placed.

Order #1 (a few sheet sets)

  • Day 1 - placed order and chose the cheapest shipping option
  • Day 4 - items shown not shipped on order status page
  • Day 4 - emailed Amazon and they upgraded the order to priority shipping for free. Essentially, I paid zero shipping on this order and got it at the same time they were supposed to arrive if items were shipped as soon as they were ordered.

Now it gets even better in the second instance.

Order #2 (iRobot Braava)

  • Day 1 - placed order and chose the cheapest shipping option
  • Day 4 - item shown not shipped on order status page
  • Day 4 - emailed Amazon and they upgraded the order to priority shipping for free (same as last order)
  • Day 5 - order still not marked as shipped but 'change delivery speed' will still let me change the delivery service and now the courier option (fastest and most expensive option) is available for $0 as well (which was $70 odd at the time order was first placed)

2nd order was received today via DHL within 4 days of changing the option to free courier upgrade.

I am thinking Amazon makes these options available for all orders that get delayed at the shipping stage but instead of automatically making them available to customers, they leave it for customers to find the option and take it.

Anyone else had a similar experience?

Wow that is great work. I recently ordered from Amazon and they shipped it within 2 days :(

I have always had great experience with Amazon support.

A few months ago i ordered 3 pairs of sport shoes and i paid $25 for delivery , but if i actually bought another pair of shoes worth $40, i would have got free delivery as they had a promotion if you spend over $150 you get free international delivery. So in effect i could have got the last pair of shoes for $15 ... i talked to their live chat after i placed the order they said they can just refund the $25 delivery for me , no hassling just they organised it, which was fine as i didnt need another pair of shoes - even for $15!

Can't say I've ever heard a bad thing about Amazon support which, given the amount of kit they ship, is amazing. The only time I had to contact them was many years ago when I ordered some books from them. They didn't turn up so contacted them and they sent out another lot express. A week or so after the second lot arrived, the original order turned up. Contacted Amazon and they just told me to keep them! As for my Braava - it was showing as stuck in customs for a number of days but turned out there was a glitch in the tracking system and it was delivered pretty quickly - ordered on the 10th Nov, estimated delivery 26th, actual arrival 19th - so about 7 business days.

Amazon customer service is amazing. I ordered on 10th (minutes after deal was posted) and received it on 17th which is very quick for this time of the year.

We have been very happy with the little fella, floors have never been cleaner. It makes no noise whatsoever and does a wonderful job for what it's worth.
