Submission time of the deal to highlight deals being copied by Ozbargain users
I received this in email from 'Deal Hunter' and thought it might be useful to add to our site improvement forum. Please feel free to add your thoughts regarding this in this thread.
Hi,
Can't we develop our system to show the submission time of the deal when someone opened a deal? Although it shows in section "Deal just submitted" it cannot be seen after opening a deal. Some people directly extract our deal descriptions and post in other bargain sites.
Eg:
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/14...
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/14...if submission time of the deal can be shown after opening a deal. , at least our users can know that we submitted the original
Thanks.
Regards,
Deal Hunter

Nothing new here mate, you will soon get used to seeing this theft by ozbargain users happening over and over again. Grab, steal, pinch, whinge and attack are the middle names of ozbargain!!!

Thank you for your comment. Yes, I think It's alright to search on other sites and post with their own descriptions. Just copy and pasting same description is unethical.

One of those was mine! Still, the idiom is "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery"..... doesn't really worry me that much if people copy my posts or if other people copy posts from other sites to put on topbargains *if* those bargains are decent enough. Personally I don't really checkout that other site as I found a lot of the comments to be so negative.
Anyhow, I do like the idea of showing the time when a deal is listed from a curiosity perspective, not so much to find out who listed what first.

There is one ozbargain user that's a serial culprit - monty.melb
He does it with lots of topbargain deals, for example only now just did it for the aldi deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/14...
It doesn't really bother me, it's just lazy.

I am happy that Ozbargain is copying deals from Topbargains... it shows we have better deals on Topbargains :)

i think it works both ways, a lot the deals are posted on ozbargains and then come on topbargains, plus a lot of deals are posted on topbargains then appear on ozbargain
Basically -
1. users see the deal on one site, then post on the other site, writing in their own description .. ( or sometimes using the same description )
2. users get the deal in their mail inbox/ facebook post at a similar time and are posted quickly on each site

Like I've said before, I don't mind deals being replicated between sites (and of course a lot us get the same junk mail at the same time so of course deals will frequently be posted around the same time), but maybe we could have any deals that are too obviously copied from another site without any form of value add simply not count towards the weekly comp as it's less bargain hunting as such? Probably a bit hard to police though.....

I don't think many deals are being copied from ozbargain to TopBargains. The only exception has been when a user posts the same deal on both sites and as long as they post it first on TopBargains, they should be included in the competition.

Agree if the same person/user posts it on both sites no matter which site they post it to first (although obviously preference should be here first!) but I suspect it's poor form if they simply copy the deal someone else has posted word for word from one site to another.

It's amazing, monty.melb might trawl Topbargains 1/2 the day, or have an email subscription to the Topbargain feed or something, because he often copies deals onto OzB within 5 min of them being posted here! Another serial offender is tightarse.

I don't know if there's any way to stop it?

I emailed scotty (OzBargain owner) this morning and he has assured me that this will not happen in the future and OzBargain mods will try their best to enforce this.
If you see any more deals being copied (including those from Ozbargain to Top Bargains), please send me a pm.

Tightarse is another serial offender who needs to be stopped. He copied my deal within 7 minutes on ozbargain (slightly changing the wording).

I think that's a fair thing to do. Let's make sure that we do the same if any deal is sourced from ozbargain.

Far from that.
Hi
One of your Mod [ nick123 ] is shamelessly copied deals [ word for word ] from Buckscoop and Ozbargain without any credit to original poster.
This is stealing other people's hard work and this have to stop.
Just a few examples:

https://www.topbargains.com.au/harve...

Thanks for the reminder! The credit has been posted and we have mentioned our thanks to 'Earth'.
Plus deals have also been copied from our website without any credit given to us in the past on Ozbargain and other deal sharing but we didn't sham them. Plus there is no indication on the post that this post cannot be shared.
We always saw it is a compliment that our deals are spread across wider deal sharing community and more users are able to benefit from it.
