4k appears to be here to stay....

Well, more cameras are coming out with 4k support like the A7s and gh4, and now Sony have announced their new range of sets including a 49inch version [XBR-X850B] at just over US$2k

So yes, you can order a Kogan for just under $1k, although it's still not actually shipping.

Has anyone jumped and got a 4K set yet? Word is, if the set is smaller than 50inches there's not much point, plus also of course there's not that much content out there to watch... going from SD to HD was pretty much a no-brainer as you could hook up a blu-ray player plus free to air TV were being forced to broadcast HD content, but I haven't heard of any plans for 4k content to be broadcast other than perhaps via broadband. At the moment it appears to only really make much sense if you own a 4k video camera.....

If I was getting married, I'd probably try to have it filmed in 4k to 'future proof' but as much as I'm a geek and love hi tech things, I suspect at the moment your money is better spent on a bigger tv....

Like HD, 4k will only pick up when cameras pick up. Sony were selling HD cameras long before people started buying HDTVs as standard.

How are the 4k prices compared to current generation Tvs?

Prices are getting closer, but there is still a substantial difference - maybe close to double the price of a similar size set.....

3LCD? Wow - pretty old school. ;-) But yes, I'm watching the price of larger screens go down - 60 inch can be had for under $1k now.... I'm just waiting for the 70 or 80 inch jobs to reach that level before I shift my old 50inch plasma to the games room......
