Etihad deals - fly to Europe from $1,093 *return* inc taxes! $1,328 return to the USA. From lastminute.com.au

Lastminute have some deals on flights with various airlines - the best at the moment seems to be with Etihad. Flying to Europe for $1,093 *return* including taxes, is amazing. Yes, that's there AND back! That price is from Perth - Syd/Melb/Bris is $1,129 return. Of course they count Turkey as Europe, but flying to Paris from Melbourne is $1,220.... still amazing for a return flight!

$1,328 to USA (from any state): http://www.lastminute.com.au/interna...

Most flights must be made from the 1st of October to the 10th of Dec, and need to be booked by the 15th of August - but date/availability varies depending on the destination. Seem to be lots to choose from though. Personally I haven't flown with them, but I know people who have and who have said it was fine. Some info is here: http://www.airlineratings.com/rating...

Oh, I should note that flights etc within Europe can be pretty cheap - quick search then I found return flights from Istanbul to/from Paris for 86 euro (about $123 - maybe double that if you go the likes of Swiss/Alitalia/Lufthansa, but still cheap). Could always fly to Istanbul, spend some time there, then hop on a plane to Paris.... then train to London.... then back again.....

Discounted fares was tempting enough and then you had to mention cheap flights within Europe...

I know.... we've already paid for our family holiday this year, but by gosh it's tempting!

Too lazy to post a new deal (if anyone else wants, go ahead by all means).

There's also a $100 cashback from Etihad on Europe flights. Not sure how prices compare after applying the cashback though.

Had a look and just posted the deal but I must add that in my opinion it is not really a good bargain. the $100 cashback works out to around 4% off and the fares are over $2000 to most destinations. I would stick to the above deal posted by Ninhursag :-)

Not true that :)

I have checked flights between Sydney and Istanbul (31st Oct - 18 Nov return). I am getting $1,126.96 from Jetabroad which is $3 cheaper than Lastminute plus another $100 off.

As always, worth doing some comparisons before hitting the 'buy' button! Nice one. ;-)

On the flip side, you only get $50 if you don't pay by PayPal... plus you have to be one of the first 200 to claim, so there's always the risk you might miss out there. I also like to use my amex (even if there's a premium to do so) as it includes travel insurance so effectively it usually is a lot cheaper than paying for that separately.

Excellent point regarding Amex. It's like saving $100-$200 per trip.

Fortunately I've never had to use it, but as with most insurance policies it's nice to know it's there just in case!

Worth contacting STA perhaps to save another $26.96? ;) I probably wouldn't bother though, so much easier to book online! http://www.topbargains.com.au/perth-...

Wow travel insurance never costs me that much! I usually get an annual policy for unlimited trips (excluding USA) for 4 weeks or less and that's around $250 from memory.

An annual policy is a good idea, although like I say it's free for me as long as I use the amex to pay... usually there's no additional cost.... but the most I've had to pay extra is a 2.5% surcharge so I'd have to spend over $10,000 before I started saving money by getting a policy separate from the card....
